PRSI Fire


At approximately 10:30 AM an explosion and fire occurred at the Petrobras Pasadena Refining System facility located at 111 Red Bluff Rd. in Pasadena, Texas on the Houston Ship Channel. One employee was reported to be injured, and transported to an area hospital.

The Washburn Tunnel and The Houston Ship Channel were closed for a few hours before resuming normal operations and the Washburn Tunnel sheltered in place for a short time, but no other shelter-in-places were requested for the area.

Responders included: CIMA (Channel Industries Mutual Aid), Pasadena FD, Harris County HazMat, HC Fire Marshal Investigators, Pollution Control, Pasadena Office of Emergency Management, Harris County Emergency Management, and Galena Park Emergency Management. Galena Park and Houston FDs were staged and ready to assist, but were released about one hour into the event. By 1:15 PM the shelter-in-place for the Washburn Tunnel had been lifted and only a handful of responders remained on-site.

Harris County Pollution Control and Pasadena Refinery environmental personnel found no evidence of a release, reporting 0%.
