Fire broke out in the generator room of the Navigator Europa December 14 as the crew was transferring ethylene at the Targa Midstream Terminal Dock No. 1 on the Houston Ship Channel.

Targa’s Emergency Response Team immediately activated their fire suppression systems and emergency response plan.

The fire was contained to the generator room and no injuries were reported. The US Coast Guard Vessel Traffic Office closed a 2-mile portion of the channel above, and below the area for several hours as a precautionary measure. The USCG is investigating the cause of the fire.

The Galena Park, Jacinto City, Port of Houston Authority, and Houston Fire Departments, as well as Galena Park and Harris County Offices of Emergency Management, Harris County Sheriff’s Office and USCG responded to the scene.

There was no off-site impact.
